Who we are
This site promotes the books of Maggie Hartwell. Maggie Hartwell is the data controller responsible for your personal data. You can reach the controller using the contact details at the end of this policy.
What data we collect
We keep data collection to a minimum. We collect:
- The email address, and optionally the first name, you provide when you subscribe to the newsletter.
- Standard technical information that our host records to deliver and secure the site, such as your IP address and browser type, held in server logs.
- If you accept analytics cookies, anonymous usage data about how you use the site (such as pages visited and approximate location), collected through Google Analytics. This is not collected unless you consent.
We do not use advertising trackers, and analytics never loads until you accept it. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time in the Cookies section below.
Legal basis for processing
We process your newsletter data on the basis of your consent, which you give by completing the signup form. We process analytics data on the basis of your consent, which you give through the cookie banner. You can withdraw either consent at any time. Technical log data is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and available.
How we use your data
We use your email address only to send occasional updates about The Quiet Craft Mysteries and related news. We do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.
Third-party processors
We use the following processors to run this site and its newsletter:
- MailerLite (UAB MailerLite) handles newsletter sign-ups and email delivery. Your email address and optional first name are stored on MailerLite's systems. MailerLite is based in Lithuania and processes this data within the European Union.
- Google (Google Ireland Limited) provides Google Analytics, which we use only if you accept analytics cookies. Google processes anonymous usage data on our behalf.
- Netlify hosts the website and processes the technical log data described above.
Google and Netlify are based in, or transfer data to, the United States. Where data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Your newsletter data is processed by MailerLite within the European Union.
Data retention
We keep your newsletter data until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in the footer of every newsletter email, after which your data is removed from our active mailing list.
Cookies
When you first visit, we ask whether you accept analytics cookies. No analytics cookies are set, and Google Analytics does not load, unless you accept. If you decline, no analytics cookies are used. The newsletter form provided by MailerLite may set cookies that are necessary for it to function when you interact with it.
